Air France cabin crew will take to the skies in Christian Lacroix clothing from 2005 after the French couturier was appointed to design their next generation of uniforms.

Representatives from Air France's 35,000 staff helped select the designer after viewing his initial sketches.

"By signing up to this adventure, my aim is to invent a new universe at the crossing-point of two worlds closely associated with dreams - the world of the air and the world of fashion," Lacroix said in a statement.
