LaCrosse Footwear Inc has posted net income of $1.1 million for the first quarter, up from a net loss of $0.6m in the same period a year earlier.

The Oregon-based company, which produces footwear under the Danner and LaCrosse brand names, also reported a 19.4 per cent increase in first quarter net sales to $23.7m, up from $19.9m in the previous first quarter.

According to CEO Joseph Schneider, the company was "pleased" with its latest quarterly results.

"In recent years, we successfully managed our strategic transition to a product development, marketing and sourcing company, with a major consolidation of operations and cost reductions.

"Moving into 2004, we are encouraged with dealer responses to our innovative new products, including our new LaCrosse Quad Comfort and Danner Agitator lines."

Without providing actual figures, LaCrosse said retail sales of its namesake-branded products increased during the quarter.
