Shoe firm LaCrosse Footwear Inc on Tuesday posted a narrower second quarter net loss of $3.8 million compared to $5.9m in the year-ago period amid a 23 per cent fall in net sales to $20m.

The Oregon-based company said that loss included a one-off $1m charge related to the relocation of the Rainfair Industrial division and added for the first half, its net loss narrowed to $5.8m from $7.4m and net sales fell to $42.8m from $55.2m.

In a statement, the firm said reduced demand across both retail and industrial markets amid a soft economy, tighter inventory management by channel partners and reduced fall pre-season orders, resulted in the sales decreases for the quarter and year to date periods.
