Shoe maker LaCrosse Footwear Inc has won its second multimillion-dollar order in about six months from the United States military.

The Oregon-based company said on Wednesday that its Danner subsidiary would start shipping desert combat boots in the third quarter under a $5 million deal with the US General Services Administration.

As a result of the deal, Danner will add as many 70 manufacturing and sewing positions to its 300-person workforce in Portland, LaCrosse chief financial officer David Carlson said.

In the first quarter, LaCrosse fulfilled a $4.9 million order for the same desert combat boots for the US military.

It amounted to 21 per cent of the company's first quarter sales of $23.7m.
