Qualytextil, the recently acquired Brazilian subsidiary of protective apparel maker Lakeland Industries, has won a contract worth around US$800,000 to kit out firefighters in the state of Para.

The announcement marks the fourth major contract the firm has received from Brazil in less than two months, including customised protective clothing for an electric utility and garments for a petrochemical giant headquartered there.

"Our Qualytextil subsidiary is clearly establishing a beach head for Lakeland in Brazil that is setting the stage for increasing our reach into other Latin American markets," said Chris Ryan, CEO of Lakeland.

Lakeland bought Qualytextil in May 2008.
