The export value of Vietnam's leather and footwear sector increased 7.76 per cent to $1.5bn in 2000 compared to figures from 1999.

The Vietnam Leather and Footwear Corporation achieved over 94 per cent of the export value for 1999, raising $145m.

The corporation has blamed a drop in exports on increased competition from foreign enterprises and the failure of some affiliates to meet customer demands in quality and design.
