The Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso) is targeting a 17% hike in shoe exports in fiscal year 2010, to US$6.2bn.

Lefaso is encouraging manufacturers to focus on producing high-end fashion footwear rather than medium to low quality in order to raise profit margins in the products thay sell.

The association also wants to increase total workers in the industry from 550,000 people now to 820,000 people in 2010, and up to 1,189,000 people by 2015.
