Jeans wear giant Levi Strauss & Co has won a ruling which will help its campaign against garment maker Vogue Traders Clothing Co, which allegedly copied its denim goods.

The Philippine Supreme Court has laid aside previous rulings preventing the Regional Trial Court of Manila from listening to the case until the complaint filed with the patents office had been resolved.

The Supreme Court highlighted the fact that a hearing for a trademark infringement or unfair competition case can go ahead at the same time as an administrative case filed with the Bureau of Patents, Trademarks and Technology Transfer.

Levi's appealed to the patents office to cancel Vogue Traders Clothing Co's application to register a trademark called Live's as well as a connected label mark, arguing that the brand was too close to its own.
