Iconic denim brand Levi's has opened the company's latest retail outlet in San Francisco's historic Castro district.

The store, the second Levi's outlet in the city, is located at 525 Castro Street and opened its doors yesterday (10 November).

To mark the opening, Levi's is sponsoring the "people's premiere" of Milk, Gus van Sant's biopic of celebrated gay rights activist Harvey Milk, who lived in the Castro district.

The company is also making cash grants to two non-profit organisations which have bases in the Castro area.

"It's a perfect fit," said Mark Breithard, Levi's brand retail president. "We have a unique relationship with the Castro neighbourhood that goes back decades."
