Two of the biggest names in Italian linen production could soon become one if the proposed merger between Zignago Textile Spa and the Linficio a Canapificio Nationale Spa division of the Marzotto group goes ahead as planned.

By pooling their operations the partners aim to become a major force in the international linen market creating a new company with sales in excess of 84 million euros a year.

The move would also help fight off the competition the Italian industry now faces from imports from the Far East and from Eastern European manufacturers.
