Up to 340 people will lose their jobs in the next couple of months after apparel giant Liz Claiborne Inc announced plans to axe its distribution centre and outlet store in Hope Hull, Alabama.

The New York-based company said the store and 635,000 square-foot warehouse would be shut within the next 60 days as part of a re-evaluation of strategies and customer service needs.

Liz Claiborne said operations from the distribution centre, which is based near the town of Montgomery, would be moved to its other facilities.
