Luxury goods giant LVMH has topped expectations with a 10 per cent first-quarter sales increase.

First quarter sales under international accounting standards totalled €3.08 billion compared to €2.81bn on a pro forma basis last year.

Organic sales rose 11 per cent during the first quarter.

The company said that fashion and leather goods had seen another quarter of double-digit organic sales growth.

LVMH said that progress in increasing its market share and in improving brand profitability led it to confirm its aim for "another tangible increase in operating income for 2005".
