Hat and cap producer Mainland Headwear Holdings Ltd on Monday posted a slight fall in first half net profit fell to HK$32.6 million (US$4.1m) from HK$32.9m in the year-ago period.

The company, which makes headwear for major brands such as Nike, Reebok and Wrangler, attributed the fall to new production facility costs and said turnover jumped 17 per cent to HK$174m.

Chairman Ngan Hei Keung commented: "Although the US economy is still weak, we are able to sustain a stable performance as a result of our long-term efforts to enrich our client portfolio."
