Baby clothing and equipment retailer Mamas & Papas has signed an exclusive franchise agreement in Russia for the next five years.

It will tie up with FD Lab Group of Moscow, which will initially launch around 30 Mamas & Papas stores over the period, concentrating mainly on the Moscow and St Petersburg areas.

The company also plans to open 12 more stores in the UK before the end of 2009.

Mamas & Papas's deputy chief executive Richard Faulkner said: "FD Lab has the right synergy with Mamas & Papas and understands the ongoing development of brands that are design led in their products and store environments".

The flagship store in Moscow will closely emulate the design interior of its European flagship store on Regent Street."

FD Lab is owned and run by Moscow based entrepreneur Alexander Lopatine, who formed the company in 1997 to manage apparel brand import and wholesale distribution in Russia.
