Spanish women's fashion chain Mango is  planning its first incursion in the North American market.

The company expects to open five stores in Canada by June 2005 and to enter the US by that time, a company spokeswoman told just-style.

However, she would not detail which US markets Mango will enter.

The spokeswoman said three of the Canadian shops will open in Toronto and one in Montreal.

As part of the incursion, Mango also plans to open 25 outlets in Canada by 2010.

Mango chose Canada as its North American expansion door because of its "enormous potential and affinity with Europe."

With 775 stores spread in 73 countries, Barcelona-based Mango aims to sell its own design wares at affordable prices. It competes with compatriot Inditex's fashion chain Zara and H&M.
