French clothing brand Marithé & François Girbaud has confirmed that it has been placed under judicial administration.

No information has been disclosed on the state of the company's finances.

Last November, Marithé and François Girbaud commissioned the Rothschild bank to find investors ready to inject fresh cash into the company. Over the past few few weeks Ernst & Young has carried out work on the company's valuation against a backdrop of negotiations with unidentified potentrial partners.

The Marithé and François Girbaud brand generates annual sales estimated at EUR200m.

The company was founded by a husband and wife design team around 40 years ago. It is not known if Marithé and François Girbaud are ready to relinquish control of the company in order to secure an investment partner.
