Marks & Spencer (M&S), the UK's largest clothing retailer with shops and franchises in over 34 countries around the world, has added an antimicrobial treatment to its top-selling sock line in Europe.

The 'M&S Freshfeet' socks are the first product to be treated with Sanitized Silver from Swiss company Sanitized AG under a new partnership between the two companies.

And discussions are now underway to apply the antimicrobial to other product groups such as ladies' and children's wear.

Because Sanitized Silver stops the growth of the bacteria responsible for odour development without using 'nano-silver,' it meets M&S' ecological standards under its 'Plan A' programme.

As part of the partnership, the socks carry the 'Sanitized - More than clean' label on the package.
