Discount retailer Matalan is believed to have drawn up a shortlist of candidates to replace former chief executive Angus Monro who resigned in April.

The company has appointed head hunters to find the new person to replace Mr Monro.

A spokesman for Matalan declined to comment on reports that a shortlist had drawn up but said an announcement was likely some time in the summer.

Founder and executive chairman, John Hargreaves, took over temporarily as group chief executive following Mr Monro's departure.
