Footwear group Maxwell Shoe Co Inc has posted a 16.7 per cent increase in fourth quarter profit to $4.8 million, compared with $4.1m earned in the same period of 2002.

The Massachusetts-based company, which owns the AK Anne Klein, JG Hook and Joan &  David brands, also saw net sales rise slightly to $65.1m for the quarter, up from $65m in the same period a year prior.

The company attributed strong sales of certain brands for the improved results.
