The International Apparel Federation (IAF) has elected Rahul Mehta as its new president for the next two years, succeeding Harry van Dalfsen.

The move was announced yesterday (1 October) at the 30th IAF World Fashion Convention in Colombia. Mehta, who currently serves as president of the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), will replace van Dalfsen, who has held the role since 2010. 

In addition, Claudio Marenzi, president of Italian apparel and textile association Sistema Moda Italia (SMI), was named vice president of the IAF.

Secretary general Han Bekke will step down at the end of this year after eight years in the post. He has been elected as a new member of IAF's board, taking the position of treasurer from Hasan Arat, who has stepped down.

Meanwhile, deputy secretary general, Matthijs Crietee, will be the new secretary general from 1 January.
