Specialty retailer Men's Wearhouse has posted net income of $37.1m in the third quarter compared to $31.8m during the prior year period, with apparel sales strong.

The company's third quarter 2007 operating income was $59.2m compared to $48.8m last year. Year-to-date fiscal 2007 net income was $132.2m compared to $96.3m last year.

Third quarter total company sales increased 19.1% for the quarter, with apparel sales representing 75.0% of total sales, an increase of 4.8%. Same-store sales decreased 2.1% for the company's US-based stores, below the company's guidance of flat to +1%.

Unseasonably warmer weather conditions impacted the company's outwear clothing categories, the company said.

For the fourth quarter of 2007, the company expects same-store sales growth in the US to be in the negative low-single digit range and in Canada to be in a range of flat to +2% and the company expects GAAP diluted earnings per share in a range of $2.87 to $2.92 for the fiscal year.
