High performance materials maker Milliken & Company is continuing to expand its presence in the global industrial workwear and military fabrics markets with the acquisition of Springfield.

Springfield LLC, a manufacturer of technical, performance and flame resistant (FR) fabrics for the safety apparel, fire service, military and occupational markets, is based in Jericho, New York with offices in Rock Hill and manufacturing facilities in Gaffney and Lyman, South Carolina.

“Springfield’s expertise is an excellent complement to our existing products and capabilities,” says Jeff Price, president, specialty fabrics division, Milliken & Company. “It further enables Millliken to deliver valuable, comprehensive textile solutions designed to improve comfort, protection and safety.”

The deal comes just over a year after Milliken acquired Westex Inc, a specialist in flame-resistant fabrics for protective clothing.

Recent innovations have also seen the company join forces with workwear supplier Dickies to create a "next generation" work shirt offering an 80% increase in breathability, as well as teaming up with Cone Denim to launch flame resistant denim apparel fabrics for the workwear industry.
