• Like-for-like sales in 19 weeks to 10 December up 10.5%
  • Year-to-date like-for-likes up 13.4%
  • CEO hails focus on core Moss brand

Formal men’s wear retailer Moss Bros Group said it was “confident” in the outlook for the full year after like-for-like sales recorded a double-digit rise in recent trading.

Total sales for the year to date – 45 weeks to 10 December – were up 18.5%, while like-for-like cash gross profit rose 7.9% in the 19 weeks to 10 December, the UK company said.

The first “new format” Moss pilot store in Canary Wharf was continuing to trade well, the retailer said, along with more recent new format openings in Liffey Valley, Meadowhall and Bluewater.

Test refits of further existing stores are planned for early 2012 as the company assesses the potential for further rollouts.

“We are encouraged by the sales momentum throughout the business, which has continued into this year, despite tougher comparatives,” said CEO Brian Brick.

“The simplification of the business model, following the disposal of the Boss franchise stores and Cecil Gee stores, has enabled us to focus on the strengths of the core Moss brand.”
