California-based clothing and footwear designer and licensor Mossimo Inc on Thursday revealed it more than doubled its second quarter net profit to $3.7 million as it benefited from an "aggressive" product expansion programme.

The company said its quarterly net income soared from $1.5m in 2001 and revenue jumped to $7.4m from $5.1m in the year-ago period. Included in the 2002 results was non-recurring revenue of $1.5m, which had been deferred pending the results of a royalty audit.

Chairman and CEO, Mossimo Giannulli, commented: "In a short period of time we have aggressively expanded our product and category reach, significantly upgraded our management team and substantially enhanced our operating platform.

"Our partnership with Target continues to strengthen and we believe many opportunities for expansion still exist. Furthermore, our new relationship with the Zellers Division of Hudson's Bay Company in Canada provides us with another meaningful growth vehicle and further diversifies our business."
