Children's wear retailer Mothercare has named Alan Parker as non-executive chairman, effective from 15 August.

Parker succeeds Ian Peacock who will be stepping down from the role after nine years as chairman. Peacock will remain on the board as a non-executive director until the end of October, the retailer said.

"We are thrilled that Alan is joining the board of Mothercare as non-executive chairman. He brings with him extensive international experience in franchising and in building consumer facing brands," said Mothercare chief executive, Ben Gordon.

"Alan's expertise and guidance will be invaluable as we continue on the next phase of Mothercare's development."

Alan serves as non-executive director of Kesa Electrical Plc, Jumeirah International LLC and Justice Holdings Ltd. He is also president of the British Hospitality Association.

Parker's appointment will be subject to ratification by shareholders at the company's next annual general meeting in July next year.
