Maternity wear retailer Mothers Work has slimmed down its fourth-quarter loss and swung back to profit in its full year.

Quarterly loss was down to US$602,000 from $5.3m a year ago while yearly net income totalled $9.1m, an improvement on last year's $0.2m loss.

Sales rose 5.6% in the fourth-quarter period to $142.8m while fiscal full-year sales grew 7.3% to $602.7m from $561.6m last year.

President and COO Rebecca Matthias said: "The company is aiming for a same-store sales of 0.5% to 2.5% for 2007 plus diluted earnings per share of between $2.70 and $3.15 excluding debt repurchase charges, representing an increase of between 57% and 83% over its $1.72 diluted earnings per share before debt repurchase charges for fiscal 2006."
