Helen Weir will take up her appointment on a date to be confirmed

UK retailer Marks & Spencer has appointed John Lewis finance chief Helen Weir as its next CFO.

Weir will take up her appointment on a date to be confirmed. She is currently chief financial officer at department store retailer John Lewis, a role she has held since 2012.

She was previously group executive director for retail at Lloyds Banking Group, having been finance director at Lloyds from 2004 to 2008. Prior to this, Weir was group finance director of Kingfisher, and finance director of B&Q.

Marks & Spencer CEO Marc Bolland, said: "We are delighted to be appointing Helen as CFO. She is extremely well qualified, and brings a wealth of relevant financial, retail and consumer experience. We look forward to her joining the M&S team."

Weir takes over from interim finance chief Paul Friston. He took up the role in July when Alan Stewart stepped down to take up the role of finance chief with Tesco.
