Luxury apparel company Mulberry Group Plc has posted a narrower pre-tax loss of £615,000 for the six months to September, down from £1.05m in the same period a year ago.

The Bath-based firm, which also saw half-year sales fall to £12.1m from £13.3m a year earlier, attributed the results to the closure of some loss-making retail outlets and reduced stock clearance activities in the UK.

Despite sales of winter apparel being hurt by unseasonably warm weather in August, a marked improvement in sales was recorded in September once the weather relented.
