Jeans giant Levi Strauss & Co is among several leading US firms being targeted in a campaign by Muslims in Australia.

Leaflets calling on Australia’s 500,000 Muslims to boycott the San Francisco-based clothing maker’s products, along with those of Starbucks, Coca-Cola Co and McDonald's, have been found in Sydney.

The pamphlet calls on Muslims to avoid buying the companies’ products due to the US’ perceived support for Israel in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Media reports say Australian retail group David Jones and supermarket chain Coles Myer are also mentioned on the leaflet which led to a statement from David Jones saying it was wholly apolitical.
