Fashion chain French Connection and wine company Bottle Green are caught up in a legal battle over the use of the French Connection name in the drinks market.

French Connection, also known as fcuk, is planning to expand its clothing brand into the alcoholic beverage sector and feels Bottle Green's use of the French Connection name "could confuse consumers."

The pre-mixed drinks are being launched through a partnership with Matthew Clark Brands and will be sold under the fcuk brand.

According to a spokeswoman for the fashion retailer, it has involved the UK Trademark Registry to ask Bottle Green to stop calling its product by this name.

The trademark registrar is expected to rule on the case in the next few weeks.
