According to a study commissioned by the French fashion industry association, the average woman in France has gone up a dress size since 1970.

The national survey found that French women today, on average, weighed in at 137.6 pounds - four pounds heavier than they did 25 years ago, reported the Associated Press Newswire (AP).

The fashion industry study, released on 3 February, measured about 12,000 people in France using 3-D imaging.

French men measured in at an average 5ft 7.5" and 170.6 pounds, compared to nearly 5ft 6" and 158.7 pounds, back in 1970, reported the news agency.

"We're getting fatter more than we're getting taller," Patrick Robinet, project manager of the study, told the AP.
