NatureWorks is planning the first world-scale production plant in South East Asia for its Ingeo biopolymer, which is used to make branded fibres from renewable sources such as corn.

The company has selected Jacobs Engineering Group for the multi-year project, which is likely to be in Thailand and may take three years to complete.

Ingeo fibres are used in a range of end-uses including clothing and textiles. Earlier this year, NatureWorks expanded its flagship facility in Blair, Nebraska, to an annual capacity of 150,000 metric tons.

The company also set up its first Asia Pacific regional headquarters in Bangkok, expanding its team of senior commercial, managerial, and technical personnel to enhance support of Ingeo customers throughout the region.
