A new chain store is set enter the retail arena this weekend, despite the current poor economic climate for clothing.

Owners of 828store.com will open their first Sydney store in Alexandria on Saturday. And they are confident the warehouse-style stores and their wide-ranging offerings of clothes, lingerie, cosmetics and accessories will be a big hit.

Despite the dot-com name, the store is not an online retailer, although it will have its own website which could be interactive in the future. Plans are also in the pipeline to open up to 20 new stores across the country.

The Asian-backed chain will buy and lease stores from Parramatta to Cairns and Wagga Wagga. Fifteen will be leased and five owned.

The store chain plans to offer its own credit card and said a spokesman, will be like Top Shop in London or Trueworths in South Africa.
