Ethical Clothing Australia has launched “Meet Your Maker”, the organisation’s first consumer awareness campaign.

The aim of the new programme is to educate consumers about the importance of ethical manufacturing in the garment industry, helping them to make an “informed choice” about shopping ethically.

Using a new website, the campaign aims to draw attention to the Ethical Clothing Australia swing tag or label, which certifies that clothing was made in Australia and that all those involved were given legal rates of pay and fair working conditions.

“We now have nearly 60 Australian businesses already accredited and applications for accreditation doubled last year,” said Simon McRae, national manager for Ethical Clothing Australia.

“This shows there is a strong demand from both industry and consumers for ethically Australian made clothing and footwear.”
