A new national organisation charged with promoting and developing New Zealand’s fashion industry will be launched this week.

The brainchild of leading fashion firms and textile chiefs, Fashion Industry New Zealand (FINZ) follows recent changes in the industry and will be launched at an official ceremony in Auckland on Thursday.

FINZ executive director, Paul Blomfield, commented: The dour old industry image has gone. New Zealand fashion in this country, Australia, and abroad is widely acclaimed as world class."

He added: "Those companies that have survived (major changes) have done it in style, accepting the challenge to become internationally competitive and the industry has a bright future."
