Fashion designers Perry Ellis, Betsey Johnson and Marc Jacobs have been named among the New York stars who have won a coveted place in the Garment District's Fashion Walk of Fame.

Their names and an original fashion sketch will now be included on medallions embedded into sidewalks along with those of Stephen Burrows, Lilly Dache, Norma Kamali, Mainbocher and Willi Smith. Previous winners include Anne Klein, Calvin Klein, Bill Blass and Oscar de la Renta..

The inductees, who had to meet criteria including having a clear and significant New York presence, owning their business for at least 10 years, and being a moving force in the fashion industry, were selected by a committee of fashion editors, retailers and costume curators

"The Fashion Walk of Fame allows fashion to take its rightful place among New York City's tourist attractions - celebrating the great designers whose talent has helped shape and define style in America and around the world," commented Barbara Randall, executive director of The Fashion Centre Business Improvement District.
