A new production unit based in Sri Lanka will dramatically boost the capacity of Leicestershire knitter Textured Jersey. The long-established company currently produces 6.5 million metres a year, but is extending its output in anticipation of extended sales into mainland Europe over the next couple of seasons.

Says Textured Jersey managing director Greg Conway: "The opening of the new unit is part of a strategic programme designed to establish closer relationships with retailers and branded clothing manufacturers through out the EU. It will have particular emphasis on meeting the special needs of customers in the fields of lingerie and active sportswear."

Currently Textured Jersey sells around half its fabric output to the women's fashion trade, forty per cent to lingerie producers and the remaining ten per cent to men's wear manufacturers.

Greg Conway adds that from now on all the fabrics offered by Textured Jersey will be both washable and easy care.
