A legal dispute has broken out between two of the UK's leading retailers, Tesco and Next, about the similarities of a number of clothing collections.

Next claimed that Tesco illegally copied five different collections, including shorts, trousers, sandals and shoes, reported the Sunday Telegraph newspaper.

Tesco told just-style: "As a significant owner of intellectual property ourselves we take any claim of infringement extremely seriously, however, as this is an on-going legal matter we are unable to comment further."

Tesco reportedly counterclaimed that Next sent threatening letters over the matter.

A spokesman for Next, meanwhile, refused to comment on the case while it was going through the courts.
