A new initiative to educate manufacturers, dealers and consumers about the advanced performance features of textile encapsulation technology - and how these complex features combine to create soft shell garments - has been launched by Nextec Applications and Dow Corning.

The two companies already work together: Nextec produces the Epic by Nextec brand of synthetic, stretch and Amphibious Cotton fabrics, while manufacturing partner Dow Corning produces their mechanically locked-in polymer barrier.

The new marketing partnership was prompted by the popularity of the Dow Corning and Nextec-sponsored 'Demystifying Soft Shell' seminar at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Anaheim, California in January.

Victoria Cabot, director of marketing for Nextec Applications, explains: "The challenge of educating the industry about our patented process - and how it offers unsurpassed performance achievements is the motivation behind our new cooperative marketing initiative with Dow Corning."

She adds: "As an industry, it's important to present a unified understanding of any new category - so the consumer fully understands the features, the benefits, the value and, ultimately, the need for the product. The commitment benefits us all."
