Sportswear giant Nike is launching what it claims is its lowest-profile and lightest basketball shoe to date - the Nike Zoom Kobe V.

Developed in association with hoops star Kobe Bryant, the new shoe features a 10mm forefoot profile and weighs 10.6 ounces, 1oz lighter than the Nike Zoom Kobe IV.

"I wanted to push the envelope with a shoe that meets the demands of my style of play," said Bryant. "The Kobe V is lighter, lower and more stable."

Bryant said he had been inspired by the light, low-profile boots worn by top soccer stars, resulting in hundreds of hours of testing by the Nike Sports Research Lab.

The new shoe will be available first online, with a unique Nike iD retail campaign launching on 26 December. A broader, physical retail launch will follow on 1 January in China, and on 16 January in the US, Canada and Europe.
