David Ayre has joined Nike as vice president of global human resources.

He reports to Mark Parker, president and chief executive officer of the Beaverton, Oregon-based footwear and apparel giant. He will lead human resources strategy for the company, which has more than 28,000 employees worldwide.

Ayre has been with PepsiCo since 1990, most recently as head of talent and performance rewards. During his tenure with the company, he worked in a number of international markets, including China.

"The talent and passion of Nike people worldwide is one of our greatest competitive strengths," said Parker, adding that Ayre's "deep experience leading human resources strategies in global, diverse organisations will be a tremendous benefit as we grow our company and continue developing and attracting the best talent in the industry."
