French fashion house Nina Ricci has named Swedish designer Lars Nilsson as its new creative director.

Nilsson will be based at the company's headquarters in Paris, and says he hopes to infuse the label, which is owned by the Spanish group Puig, with "youth and femininity".

Prior to joining Nina Ricci, Nilsson was creative director for both Polo Ralph Lauren and Bill Blass. He also spent two years working with John Galliano at Nilsson, who took over the creative helm at Nina Ricci on Monday and will be based at the Christian Dior and eight years at Christian Lacroix.
