Fast Retailing Co President Tadashi Yanai has brushed aside fears the company's hugely successful Uniqlo brand clothing could experience a sales slowdown

Describing his company's 34-month double digit sales growth as "extraordinary", Yanai told a Tokyo press conference on Thursday he expected sales to shift toward a stable growth trend rather than fall.

Sales are likely to post year-on-year growth from autumn onward, after same-store sales saw 5.7 per cent growth in September following the first decline in some three years in August, he said.

He added that Fast Retailing's four outlets in London, its first overseas stores, were doing well since their opening last Friday with the shops experiencing turnover two or three times higher than predicted.

He added that the success of its London stores was the key to Fast Retailing's leap into the global market, a comment which many observers interpreted as indicating his strong interest in wider international operations.
