More comprehensive data on retail sales in the sports industry will be available following NPD Group's acquisition of the retail sales tracking and consumer research businesses of Leisure Trends.

The combined businesses will offer consumer insight based on sales data collected from over 26,000 doors across sporting goods, specialty stores (outdoor, snow sports, cycling, running, and independent footwear stores), department stores, mass merchants, and ecommerce.

Online panels with access to over 2m individuals will also provide insight into consumer behaviour, preferences, and purchase drivers, the companies claim.
