Research business The NPD Group has launched a new wearables advisory service including a range of reports, data and analysis.

Headed by Eddie Hold, vice president of the company’s Connected Intelligence group, the new service aims to offer business solutions for the wearables market, including consumer panel-based reporting, qualitative reports, US POS data and analysis by NPD experts.

This will be complemented by Canadian consumer-based reports and POS data later this year, plus global shipment data and analysis from NPD DisplaySearch.

“With information covering the complete business cycle, NPD is uniquely positioned to help our clients understand and profit from the opportunities presented by this rapidly growing market,” said Karyn Schoenbart, NPD Group president & COO.

“Our information covers what is shipping, what is selling, who is buying it, and what consumers are doing with these products to give retailers, manufacturers and developers a better understanding of the market and the core consumers.”

An article published on just-style yesteday (24 September) suggests the introduction of the much-hyped Apple Watch will be the catalyst for "dramatic growth" in the wearable technology sector, which has the potential to be worth $170bn globally by 2020.
