Sunglass and sportswear maker Oakley Inc has agreed to buy retailer Iacon Inc for an undisclosed sum.

An article in the Wall Street Journal said the move would give the company more control of how its products are sold. The announcement comes just a month after Oakley's biggest distributor, Sunglass Hut, decided to change its focus to brands owned by its new Italian parent Luxottica Group SpA.

Iacon, which was founded 20 years ago, has 40 mall-based stores that operate under the Sunglass Designs, Sporting Eyes and Occhiali da Sole names. Sales for the 12 months ended August 31, were $15m, 26 per cent of which came from the Oakley line.

Oakley says that Iacon's management team will continue to run day-to-day operations of the retail outlets.
