Performance footwear and apparel maker Oakley Inc has announced details of a new boot designed specifically for the US Elite Special Forces - and says a version for civilian use is in the pipeline.

The Elite Special Forces Standard-Issue Assault Boot has been developed as part of the company's ongoing research and development with the US military. According to Oakley it needed "a more athletic design than any boot ever conceived."

The result is a boot braced by an over-the-ankle boot shaft and shielded by abrasion resistant panels on soft top-grain leather. Comprehensive moisture control maximises comfort; advanced polymer EVA and premium urethane offer resilient shock absorption; and high-NBS vulcanised rubber maintains traction over a full range of terrain.

The consumer version of the Elite Special Forces Standard-Issue Assault Boot is expected to be available, in limited quantities, late in the second quarter of 2003, with a suggested retail price of $225.
