Top trade officials in Pakistan have upped their garment export target for 2002 to $1 billion from $750 million, it was reported on Monday.

Quoting unnamed sources, the Asia Pulse newspaper said the EU and US remained the main buyers of its apparel and the industry was returning to normal after September 11 and US-led war on terrorism in neighbouring Afghanistan.

However, the report added that foreign investment in Pakistan's textile industry is slow, although the sector has gained 57 per cent in value-added products compared to 52 per cent in 2001 and 37 per cent in 1995.
