Barry Garlick has assumed the role of president at textile research firm Optimer Performance Fibers.

Mr Garlick joined Optimer in November 2000 as vice president of marketing and business development for the western US and Asia.

During the past two years he has successfully initiated programmes designed to increase the apparel industry's awareness of the moisture-transporting high performance fabric dri-release, and Freshguard odour neutraliser, into recognisable performance brands.

In his new leadership position, Mr Garlick will be responsible for worldwide sales, marketing and advertising as well as the expansion of global marketing alliances for Optimer Performance Fibers.  He will spearhead and execute strategic initiatives to introduce the technology-based brands to new market segments and ensure their continued growth in the activewear, performance markets.

Before joining Optimer, Mr Garlick served as director of marketing for Nextec, a West Coast-based fabric research and development company specialising in waterproof, breathable fabrics.  From 1996-1998, he was Director of Apparel for Brooks Sports.
