The chairman and managing director of upscale apparel retailer Oroton International on Wednesday said he expects strong festive sales and revealed plans to expand its recently-acquired Marcs label across Australia.

Ross Lane told shareholders that October and November sales were strong and the owner of outlets of Polo Ralph Lauren and Morrissey labels was looking forward to bright Christmas season.

"October improved and November was strong and sales were above forecasts," he said. "The second quarter is the most important quarter for us, and based on November trading, and our preparation for Christmas, we look forward to solid second quarter."

He added the Marcs brands would be given an expanded retail presence in Australia in 2003 and the firm was considering releasing a new range of children’s apparel next year called Mini-Marcs.
